Remember a Charity Week 13 -19 September 2010

Abbeyfield’s fundraising income comes from the generosity of people like you, whether it’s through collection boxes, donations or taking part in our events. But it’s a little known fact that our most vital income actually comes from people leaving gifts in wills.

For instance, recent gifts in wills helped many Abbeyfield houses and homes across the UK to extend the services we offer for older people and also to enhance some of our existing facilities:

  • In Beaconsfield a gift in a will helped to fund a new activity centre - providing a safe and secure place for older people to visit to enjoy crafts, hairdressing, singing, games and cooking giving much needed respite for their carers.
  • In North Yorkshire, a significant gift in a will helped to fund a new development of 12 flats providing a vital housing and care for local older people in an area where none existed before.
  • In Cambridge a gift from a friend was used to create a small, quiet seating area for residents to sit and relax with friends and family.

Legacies are vital to our work and that’s why we are taking part in Remember A Charity Week from 13-19 September to help raise legacy awareness.

It’s a common myth that you have to be wealthy to help us by leaving a gift in your will. Nothing could be further from the truth. After taking care of family and friends, you’ll be amazed at what one final gift, no matter how big or small, can do.

Whatever the amount we’re extremely grateful for any gift that’s been left to us, as it will help us to continue to enhance the quality of life for older people.

It's so simple as well. Just ask any professional will provider or visit rememberacharity.org.uk for further advice. If you would like to visit one of our houses or care homes, just let us know: E mail: b.deex@abbeyfield.com .  We'll be happy to show you around.

Of course we don’t expect you to write or update your will right now. Instead, we only ask that you don’t forget. So this week please keep it in your mind, discuss the subject with your loved ones and then maybe, when the time comes, you’ll consider including Abbeyfield in your will and help our work live.
