 Abbeyfield Ryde, Isle of Wight

Abbeyfield is the freeholder of a large plot of land in Ryde on the Isle of Wight.  Although the project is in a very early stage, the Development Team are currently working closely with the local authority and the local community to ensure we provide a sensitive development that respects the surrounding semi-rural environment and meets the future needs of local older people.  A scheme of around 150 homes is proposed with a range of tenures including affordable and private sale that will vary from self contained apartments, to bungalows and possibly a small number of homes to accommodate dementia care.

Abbeyfield have appointed specialist planning consultants to assist us with the process of preparing an acceptable scheme in terms of local planning policy and our architects continue to work on the design development.

It is hoped that a planning application will be submitted in 2010 moving to a start to the works in 2011.

Plans are at an early stage but we are considering the following provision:

Home Care

Offering care in their own homes to all residents in the ‘Village’ and to a limited number in the local vicinity

Day Centre

A meeting place for residents and  visitors throughout the day and in the evening for meals, social events and other activities

Extra Care Housing

A new development with numbers under consideration – a support and care team will be based on site to deliver services

Nursing & Residential Care

A new development with numbers under consideration

Respite Care

Rooms available for short-stay care and rehabilitation following hospital treatment.
