Abbeyfield Wins Twice at National Dementia Care Awards

Two Abbeyfield care homes based in Cambridge and North Weald, Epping, won awards at the National Dementia Care Awards held on 2nd November.

Cunningham House, a care home with a 25 room dementia unit in Epping Essex, picked up the Best Exterior Dementia Design award and Nicola Munns, a Care Assistant at Browns Field House, a care home that cares for older people and people living with dementia based in Cambridge won outstanding Dementia Care Support Worker categories.

Judges chose Cunningham House as the winner of the Best Exterior Dementia Design and said it sets the standard for involving everyone who lives in, works in and visits the home in the design, creation and enjoyment of the external environment - a truly inspring masterpiece.

Helena Little, Abbeyfield’s Director of Care said: "The competition was very stiff and we’re absolutely thrilled to have won in two tough categories.”

The event held in Liverpool was sponsored by Boots and aimed to highlight the central role dementia now has in the long-term care sector. The awards were launched in 2010 to recognise all of the excellent work being carried out within the dementia care sector.
