Jim Adams, the husband of former Alcester mayor Susan Adams, has been named Alcester Citizen of the Year. Jim has worked as a nurseryman in Alcester for most of his life.
He served in the Second World War, being sunk three times, and has been a member of the Court Leet in Alcester, serving as high bailiff in 1960. He was chairman of the Town Hall Management Committee for 26 years, and chairman of Abbeyfield House for 25 years, as well as being an active member of the Rotary Club.
The Citizen of the Year is chosen each year by the mayor and Mike Gittus presented a trophy to Jim at the last council meeting. Mike said: “Despite having been burgled three times in 2009, Jim continues to have a love and respect for Alcester stretching back over 60 years that few people can equal.”
Jim works closely with the British Legion, serving first as the chairman of the Services Committee, and subsequently took over as president, following the death of the previous marquis. He has been the parade marshall since 1996, and has been selling poppies in Alcester for 40 years.
